AFRICAN Travel Stories and digital nomad Tips
Welcome to The Movious Mzungu
I’m Elizabeth, a solo traveler, entrepreneur, empty-nester, foodie, and, if you could place a dollar value on friendships, a millionaire.
My Zambian friends say I’m “too movious” – a local term implying I move around too much – because of my choice to be a digital nomad. And, throughout my life, children have called me “mzungu” (foreigner, and usually directed at anyone with white skin) when I randomly show up in their communities. Hence, the Movious Mzungu: A person with an incurable case of wanderlust who calls many places home.
In my blogs, I share my lighthearted experiences from 20 years of African travel plus practical tips for digital nomads. Whether you are dreaming of remote work in Africa, or reminiscing about the unexpected joys of travel, I welcome you to my stories.

Lessons from a Nomad
Stories of African travel as an entrepreneur, finding my community and staying grounded while on their move.
From travel mishaps to digital nomad hacks, I bring you the best of African travel with a smile.
During my world travels, I met many other digital nomads. I realized that travel to Africa was a “someday” destination for most people, and a “I wouldn’t know where to start planning my African travel” for everyone. I decided to write down my stories to inspire digital nomads to travel in Africa. I also started an African travel advisory consulting service (find out more here.)
In my writing, I tell the stories from my travel in Africa, from mishaps to chance meetings to memorable experiences. I also provide advice from this firsthand experience of travel in Africa, with hacks for working as a digital nomad in Africa and tips for how to adapt to the realities of remote work in Africa.
As you read my blog, I hope that these stories spark curiosity for travel in Africa and bring a smile to your face about the whimsies of everyday life.

Jiranileo: African food tours for the curious traveler
On my travels I’ve eaten everything from hippo stew to wild orchid cake. I feel that African travel would be incomplete without a taste of the traditional foods, so I started Jiranileo. From kitchens to markets to family tables, African food tours with Jiranileo bring you closer to real life, real flavors, and real connection. Search destinations across Africa for home-hosted meals, neighborhood food tours, and traditional cooking classes.
